Short answer: Choose a specialist, not just a price. Before traveling, ask about the dentist's specialty, how the treatment is planned, which implant system is used, how many trips you'll need and what happens if there's a problem after you go home.

10 questions to ask before you book
1. What is your specialty?
Implants are surgery. Ask whether the dentist is a specialist, such as a periodontist, oral surgeon or implant specialist, and what training they have.
2. Will you evaluate my gums and bone first?
A good plan starts with checking for gum disease and measuring the available bone, not with a quote.
3. Will I have a 3D CT scan?
A CT scan shows bone height, width and important structures such as nerves and sinuses. It is the basis for safe planning.
4. Which implant system do you use?
Ask for the brand. Choosing an internationally available system makes it easier for a dentist in your home country to service it in the future.
5. How many trips will I need, and how long is each one?
Most implant treatments require two trips. At my practice, each trip usually takes 7 to 10 days, including a follow-up appointment.
6. Will I get a written treatment plan before I travel?
You should receive a preliminary plan with the steps and estimated cost, confirmed after your in-person evaluation.
7. What is included in the cost?
Ask whether the estimate includes the CT scan, the abutment, the final crown and follow-up visits.
8. Will I have a temporary tooth between trips?
Not every case allows it. It depends on the location of the implant and your treatment plan, so ask in advance.
9. What happens if I have a problem after I go home?
Ask how follow-up works, how you can contact the clinic and what the plan is if something needs attention.
10. Can we communicate easily in my language?
Clear communication before, during and after treatment is part of your safety.
Red flags to watch for
A final quote without any X-rays or CT scan
Pressure to decide quickly or pay in full immediately
No clear answer about who performs the surgery
Promises that everyone can get “teeth in one day”
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to get dental implants abroad?
It can be, when you choose a qualified specialist, get proper planning and have a clear follow-up plan.
Should I send my X-rays before traveling?
Yes. Recent X-rays or a CT scan help prepare a more precise preliminary plan.
