Short answer: Most patients feel mild to moderate discomfort for a few days after implant surgery, with swelling that peaks around the second or third day. You'll eat soft foods at first, attend a follow-up appointment before flying home, and can usually return to normal activities within a few days.

Every case is different. Always follow the specific instructions you receive after your surgery.
Day of surgery
The procedure is done under local anesthesia, so you're awake but shouldn't feel pain. Afterwards, the area will be numb for a few hours. Rest, apply cold compresses as instructed and take the medication prescribed for you. Plan a quiet afternoon at your hotel or apartment.
Days 1 to 3
This is when swelling and discomfort are usually most noticeable, peaking around the second or third day. Stick to soft, cool or lukewarm foods such as yogurt, soups, eggs and smoothies. Avoid smoking and alcohol, which slow healing.
Days 4 to 7
Swelling starts to go down and most patients feel much better. You can gradually add more foods, while still avoiding chewing hard or crunchy foods on the surgical side. This is a good time to enjoy Bogotá at a relaxed pace.
Follow-up appointment (days 7 to 10)
Before you fly home, we check your healing and, if needed, remove stitches. This is why each trip usually takes 7 to 10 days.
Flying home
After a routine implant placement, most patients can fly within a few days. If your treatment included a sinus lift, I'll tell you how long to wait, since changes in air pressure can affect healing.
A note about Bogotá's altitude
Bogotá sits about 2,600 meters (8,500 feet) above sea level. Stay well hydrated, rest your first days and let us know about any heart or lung conditions before your trip.
